Free Market & Hired Merchants

Buying and selling with other players

Opening a Hired Merchant, the paid store permits, the Owl of Minerva, and the meso tax on trades.

Hired Merchants

A Hired Merchant is a store that keeps selling for you in the Free Market. Talk to Fredrick in the Free Market to get your Merchant Pass.

  • Fredrick has a one-time 5,000,000 meso unlock. You need it to retrieve items from a closed store, and the paid permits and the Owl of Minerva below need it too.
  • A store closes on its own after 10 minutes when it has no items registered, or when everything has sold.

The Cash Shop sells five Hired Merchant permits: the Teddy Bear Clerk, The Robot Stand, Homely Coffeehouse, Granny's Food Stand and Tiki Torch Store.

  • A store opened with a paid permit stays open for 48 hours and can sell up to 20 items at a time.
  • Permits expire 30 days after purchase.
  • They still need Fredrick's 5,000,000 meso unlock.

The meso tax

Trades between players and Hired Merchant sales pay a 5% meso tax. It comes off the mesos you receive, when the trade completes or when you collect from your merchant.

The Owl of Minerva

An Owl of Minerva searches the Free Market for you: find an item, see what it is selling for, and teleport straight to the Hired Merchant selling it when you are on the same channel.

  • Fredrick sells 3 Owls a day, for 1,000,000 mesos each. Owls expire after 24 hours.
  • The Cash Shop sells them too.
  • Using an Owl needs Fredrick's 5,000,000 meso unlock.

Selling to NPC shops

Sold something to an NPC shop by mistake? NPC shops have a buy-back: the last 20 items you sold can be bought back.

Trade safely

Scams, including drop games and fake services or guarantees, are against the Game Rules, and so is trading items, mesos or accounts for real money. Account Bound items cannot be traded or sold in a Hired Merchant at all.
