Game Rules & Operating Policy
Effective Date: August 13, 2026
Old School Maple is a creator-operated world within MapleStory Worlds. MapleStory Worlds is operated by Nexon, and all users remain subject to Nexon's Terms of Service in addition to these Rules.
These In-Game Rules and Operating Policy ("Rules") govern all access to and use of Old School Maple and related services (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to comply with these Rules. Failure to do so may result in enforcement action at the discretion of the moderation team.
1. Scope and Authority
1.1 These Rules apply to all player activity, including but not limited to gameplay, chat, trading, account usage, and interactions with game systems.
1.2 Enforcement of these Rules is determined solely at the discretion of the developers and authorized moderators ("Moderators").
1.3 Moderators may take action regardless of whether a violation is explicitly listed, if behavior is determined to be harmful to the Service, its players, or its economy.
2. General Player Obligations
2.1 Players must use the Service only as intended.
2.2 Players are responsible for all activity conducted under their Account, whether authorized or unauthorized.
2.3 Ignorance of these Rules does not exempt a player from enforcement.
3. Prohibited Conduct
The following actions are strictly prohibited and may result in enforcement action.
3.1 Cheating, Automation, and Unfair Advantage
Players may not engage in, attempt, or assist with:
a. Hacking: modifying the client, server interaction, memory, or network traffic.
b. Botting or automation: including macros or scripts that automate gameplay.
c. Benefit hacking: knowingly benefiting from hacked activity, exploits, or illegitimate gains.
d. Making use of hackers, including:
- Partying with hackers
- Tagging monsters killed by a hacker
- Picking up items generated through hacking or exploits
3.2 Bugs, Glitches, and Exploitation
Players may not:
a. Abuse or exploit bugs, glitches, or unintended mechanics.
b. Repeatedly take advantage of known issues for personal benefit.
c. Retain or transfer gains obtained through exploitation.
Players are expected to report discovered issues through official channels.
3.3 Account Integrity
Players may not engage in:
a. Account theft, attempted theft, or unauthorized access.
b. Account sharing or lending.
c. Trading, selling, or buying accounts or character names.
Accounts involved in such activity may be permanently restricted.
3.4 Impersonation
Players may not impersonate:
a. Another player
b. Non-Player Characters (NPCs)
c. Game Masters ("GM") or staff
d. Any individual or entity in a misleading or deceptive manner
3.5 Naming Policy
Usernames and character names must not be:
- Vulgar, obscene, or sexually explicit
- Defamatory or misleading
- Racist, hateful, or discriminatory
- Offensive or derogatory in nature
Moderators may require name changes or apply penalties without warning.
3.6 Harassment and Disruptive Behavior
Players may not engage in behavior including, but not limited to:
- Griefing or intentionally disrupting gameplay
- Blocking access to content or progression
- Stalking or repeated unwanted contact
- Use of offensive phrases or slurs
- Racism or hate mongering
- Heavy or explicit sexual language
- Posting account credentials or personal information
- Submitting false or malicious reports
3.7 Chat and Communication Violations
The following are prohibited:
a. Providing or requesting hack, exploit, or cheat information
b. Encouraging rule violations
c. Spreading misinformation intended to disrupt the community
3.8 Trading, Scamming, and Real-Money Trading
Players may not engage in:
a. Real-money trading, meaning the sale, purchase, or exchange of any of the following for real-world currency or goods:
- Accounts
- Character names
- In-game currency, items, or premium currency such as Maple Points or World Coins
b. Scamming or promotion of scam activities, including:
- Drop games
- Fraudulent services or guarantees
3.9 Advertising and Promotion
Players may not advertise or promote:
- Meso or gold selling websites
- Hack or exploit websites
- Inappropriate or malicious external sites
4. Enforcement Actions
4.1 Enforcement actions may include, without limitation:
- Warnings
- Chat restrictions
- Temporary suspension
- Permanent account ban
- Removal or rollback of items, currency, or progress
4.2 Enforcement severity is determined at the discretion of Moderators and may escalate based on behavior, intent, or impact.
4.3 Moderators are not required to disclose evidence, detection methods, or enforcement rationale.
5. Appeals
5.1 Players may submit an appeal through official channels, including the Old School Maple Discord.
5.2 Appeals are reviewed at the discretion of the moderation team and may be denied without further explanation.
5.3 Repeated or abusive appeals may result in additional enforcement.
6. Access License and Revocation
6.1 Access to the Service is provided as a limited, revocable privilege, not a right.
6.2 Access to any account may be suspended, restricted, or permanently revoked at any time, with or without notice, for violations of these Rules or for any other reason deemed necessary to protect the Service or its players.
6.3 Loss of access due to enforcement action may result in loss of characters, items, currency, or progress.
7. Virtual Items and Refund Policy
7.1 All virtual items, currency, and benefits are provided as part of the Service and do not constitute real-world property.
7.2 Refunds are not provided for virtual items, currency, or benefits associated with the Service. All billing and payment transactions are processed by Nexon, and refund requests must be directed to Nexon in accordance with their policies.
7.3 Enforcement actions do not entitle players to compensation or reimbursement.
8. Service Availability
8.1 The Service is provided "as is" and may be modified, suspended, or discontinued at any time.
8.2 No guarantees are made regarding uninterrupted access, availability, or preservation of data.
9. Amendments
9.1 These Rules may be modified at any time.
9.2 Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of updated Rules.
